We’ll be studying lots about Negan in The Walking Dead Season 8, whether or not we prefer it or not.
In a brand new interview, Jeffrey Dean Morgan reveals that the upcoming season of AMC’s zombie hit will permit viewers to “begin seeing slivers of who this man is past the brutality that we noticed in Season 7.”

Morgan expresses hope that the show will eventually do a full backstory episode for the big bad, as The Walking Dead has previously done with some of its other heroes and villains. “I don’t know that that’s going to happen this year, but we are going to see enough of him and he talks quite a bit, as you know,” he says. “So he’s going to reveal some of himself to the audience this year, which is going to be awesome.”
A villain’s backstory can both be essentially the most attention-grabbing factor about them, or the least. Darth Vader was terrifying when he was only a man in a scary masks, however after we discovered that he was Luke’s father, it added a complete new layer of emotion to the Star Wars franchise. However then there’s Batman’s archnemesis, The Joker, who’s terrifying exactly as a result of his motivations are by no means clear and his “previous” is unimaginable to pin down.
It’s all adding to the pot of how season eight is going to be very different, with a stronger emphasis on action and a faster pace all being promised.
The Walking Dead season 8 will hit screens in the US on October 22 on AMC, and a day later in the UK on Fox on October 23. You can also catch-up on the series on Now TV.
